Presentation Topic

Phage - a natural weapon combating superbugs

Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria and are being investigated for their potential to address antimicrobial resistance and bacterial diseases.

The presentation will introduce this area of microbiology and biotechnology, drawing on research into bacteriophage biology and its potential applications.

Guest Speaker

Associate Professor Dr. Vorrapon Chaikeeratisak
Department of Biochemistry
Faculty of Science
Chulalongkorn University

Associate Professor Dr. Vorrapon Chaikeeratisak is a Thai molecular biologist specialising in microbiology, biochemistry, and bacteriophage biology.

After earning his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Chulalongkorn University, he conducted postdoctoral research at UCSD, contributing to discoveries about virus-built nucleus-like structures in bacteria.

Since returning to Thailand in 2018, he has led research at Chulalongkorn University and co-founded The Microbe Lab. His work develops bacteriophage-based solutions for antimicrobial resistance and aquaculture diseases, combining fundamental discoveries with biotechnology applications and earning National Research Council recognition in 2025.
